Reasons for studying in the UK

The UK is a growing destination for International Student

The UK has become one of the top destinations to study around the world. With traditions of excellence dating back hundreds of years, high class institutions on every corner, and much more flexibility than many other countries, the United Kingdom has much to offer international students that other English-speaking countries cannot.

Worldwide Recognition

Degrees and qualifications from UK higher education institutions are known around the world as high quality and world class. This standard of excellence is set by many of the universities and colleges throughout the UK as they have been in education of people for hundreds of years as compared to other institutions around the world. When looking for jobs or political appointments in the future, this can be a great selling point in my favour.

Education Costs are Lower

The UK degree generally takes less time to complete as compared to other countries, a student tends to save money unlike if I was to study in US, Canada, and Australia. Although four-year programs are increasing in popularity, most degree programs in the UK are three years, and a master’s program is typically between one and two years. Even in cases of two years programs, its usually a one study module and the other year on work placement which gives a student the opportunity to gain some work experience. Unlike in these other countries a Master’s student spends all two years in class.

Work Opportunities

An international student in the UK is typically allowed to work up to 20 hours a week during school term, and up to full-time when school is out of term. This would give a student the opportunity to gain some UK work experience. Though in my case I do not intend to work during school term as my goal is to achieve a distinction. During the holidays I could work to gain some experiences.

Did you apply to other Universities?

1. I did my research over some other Universities Like Bedfordshire, Salford University and Northampton University as well as De Montfort University and I was not satisfied with the course modules and their mode of teach. But Hertfordshire University did.

2. Hertfordshire University offers a wide range of opportunities including on-campus and UK activities, overseas study, internships, faculty-led field trips and volunteering, practical experiences and international exchanges. The University works with many professional bodies so that you have a head start when it comes to achieving professional qualifications.

3. Hertfordshire University takes pride in producing globally employable graduates for business, government and research. Past students are now working in a wide variety of organisations all over the world, from small consultancies to large, multinational companies. Typical roles include IT managers, systems consultants, and software developers.

4. Hertfordshire University has over 1,500 study places and 650 computer workstations across four sites on campus. These give access to more than half a million publications, an extensive range of DVDs, e-resources and thousands of electronic journals. The main Library is open 24 hours a day, 365 days of the year (other than in exceptional circumstances).

5. Hertfordshire University has wide range of industry-standard, general purpose and specialist software is available to support teaching. Many software packages are freely available to students via open source and similar licensing (for example Linux and Java) and all students have access to Microsoft Office.

Why did you choose to study this course?

Please you need to do your research on this aspect. You need to understand why you have opted to undertake this course. Also visit the course page on the school website. I will put up a sample below;

My interest in understanding the operations of business organisations and how subject areas like markets, customers, finance, operations, communication, information technology and business policy and strategy are able to shape these firms yielding positive results of growth and profitability.

Every aspect of life is surrounded by business entrepreneurship, from agriculture, hospitality, travel, oil and gas, health, construction, wellbeing and so many others. There is a high demand for business graduates worldwide, business touches on pretty much every aspect of modern human society, careers with a business degree are diverse and often highly paid – and these assumptions are likely to be largely true.

In my country, over 70% of the business sector are basically small-scale business enterprise and they carry out their businesses in an informal way without understanding they could enhance their operations to meet standard that can transform their businesses to an international structure.

Outside of making myself available in the job market when I graduate, I would want to establish my business consulting company where I could assist small business restructure their operations using professional form of communication, information technology and business policy and strategy to build their activities and place them on a standard scale that can attract other bigger businesses to them. In the near future help, some of them operate within the exportation and importation scale.

What are your Units/ Modules?

You need to visit your course page on the school website. Look out for your units or modules which you would be learning. You must have this in mind and can state them at any point in time. You must understand how each and every of these units or modules can be of benefit to your future or career. For instance, a student studying International Business Management depending on the school may undertake a module known as “Global e-Business”. This module would help you gain insight on how electronic networks is applied to capture global markets, and all transactions taking place in the worldwide electronic market space. Businesses today have gone global through the use of e-commerce and some operations can be carried out online.

How would you be assessed

The assessment would be based on a balance of written reports, formal invigilated examinations, practical (coursework) assignments and computer-based assessment

I would also have the opportunity to engage into formative assessment throughout the course, especially during exercises in the practical sessions where feedback on progress and performance will be given by tutors for each of the tasks allocated.

Note in some cases

1. Examinations

2. Group work

3. Presentation

4. Assignments

5. Project work

How would you gain a return on investment?

This is trying to understand how the huge sum spent on your studies can be recovered. What duration would it take you to make back all the money spent trying to study abroad. You must be able to state the duration. See sample;

At the end of this study I would return to Nigeria to seek for employment in the banking sector. Based on my level and previous job vacancies seen on the banking firms adverts for jobs I would earn at least N500,000 a month and within 5 years I would re-coup the money invested to study in the UK.

You could improve this response to your own style

Would you work while you study?

No, I intend to focus on my studies as my goal is to attain a distinction. The issue of work would only come up during my work placement or during my off-term periods

What are your career aspirations and how the course fits in with this?

You have to do great research here and ensure an organised response. You can also discuss with our counsellors on this.

Where would you stay?

I have made arrangement for accommodation and its just 10 minutes’ walk to the school. I would not need to use, trains, bicycle or buses to school. (Please, search for an accommodation provider close to your school. Get their name and address.

Why are you spending this much when you can study in your country and how would you get your return on investment?

In my country today has a lot of graduates who currently have their Master’s but what makes the difference is the quality of education and degree you get. This puts you at better edge above your peers and present you better to the employers. Employers are looking for quality employees and people who can practically transform an organisation. It is only from a UK university that you can acquire this kind of knowledge because the University lecturers are practical people in the field.

I believe that when I return to Nigeria after my studies, I would be able to attain a better promotion where I currently work which would make me earn between £1000 to £2000 monthly and within the space of five years I would be able to recoup whatever money or investment made in coming to the UK for study.

Which other Universities did you apply to?

I did my research on five different Universities where I made applicatio to: Normapton University, Coventry University, Salford University, bedfordshire University and Teesside University.

I chose the Teesside University because it is one of the few universities in the UK offering this course, and from my own personal research I was impressed by the backgrounds and expertise of the academic staff teaching the course.

Course content is exceptionally relevant and in line with modern trends in the field, integrating environmental protection and sustainability with Health management. I have also had plenty of exposure to real life industry experience and engagement. The highlight of my time on this course was completing my research project, as I was able to gain significant hands on experience of project planning and execution, as well as develop my team working skills.

Beyond expanding my knowledge and helping me understand root causes of complex environmental and safety issues, this course has prepared me well for the future as it had improved my interpersonal skills and confidence immensely, which are very important skills in today’s job market.

Why did you choose to study this course?

I have believe at the end of this program I would have the opportunity to acquire knowledge and skills in the area of public health as this is an issue in my country. MSc Cyber Security

What course are you travelling to the UK to study?

I will be studying Cyber Security at Masters level

What is the name of your school and how much is your fee?

The name of my school is De Montfort University Leicester and my tution fee is £14,600

Why did you choose to study that course?

The IT world has been persistently growing and has brought about huge transformation in our day to day life. All Government, sectors and businesses have massively engaged in the use of IT and this has brought development and growth in our daily activities. The banking sector now have online banking system, the tourism sector also creates online application where travellers can make their booking as well as other sectors. Due to the massive usage of these processes, it is important that a high level of security is put in place to checkmate unapproved interferences. This has given me the urge to seek interest in IT security.

The course would help me build on my previous knowledge of computer science and Information Technology (IT), and it would provide me with an in-depth specialism in the fields of cyber security, cyber threat intelligence and digital forensics. I will gain advanced and in-depth knowledge of penetration testing, cyber forensics, malware reverse engineering and software vulnerability and will exploit research using a very hands-on approach process.

The course will also help me gain practical and real-world skills in all major areas of cyber security including penetration testing, digital forensics, cyber warfare and threat intelligence. I will also learn how to apply the skills I acquire from the course in analysis, testing and maintenance of software systems or enterprise networks from a cyber security perspective.

Which other institutions did you consider?

University of Bedfordshire University, Greenwich University and Coventry University

Why did you choose this institution

I chose De Montfort Universitry because it is one of the few institutions in the UK offering this course, and from my own personal research I was impressed by the backgrounds and expertise of the academic staff teaching the course.

When I went through the course content, I discovered that it was exceptionally relevant and in line with modern trends in the field. For instance Cyber Threat Intelligence, Host and Network Security and Penetration Testing and Incident Response are key relevant areas which have gotten me intrigued in studying with this school.

The Cybersecurity program at this university is almost exclusively policy based. By policy, I mean discussing critical infrastructure protection, cyber-warfare, cyber-terrorism, and cybercrime policy. It also discusses some of the basics regarding computer law.

Furthermore, the University takes pride in producing globally employable graduates for business, government and research. Past students are now working in a wide variety of organisations all over the world, from small consultancies to large, multinational companies.

The University has over 1,500 study places and 650 computer workstations across four sites on campus. These give access to more than half a million publications, an extensive range of DVDs, e-resources and thousands of electronic journals. The main Kimberlin Library is open 24 hours a day, 365 days of the year (other than in exceptional circumstances).

  1. A wide range of industry-standard, general purpose and specialist software is available to support teaching. Many software packages are freely available to students via open source and similar licensing (for example Linux and Java) and all students have access to Microsoft Office.

How would this course help you in the future?

Note: there are no precise answers to this type of question but we can give you a guide. 1. Mention why this field is important in your country 2. Disucss on how thios field can solve problems in your country 3. Discuss how people within this field are earning currently 4. Mention your future plans in the next 5-10 years

What would be your expected earning and how did you know?

Based on the current job openings I have seen through job sites and most companies website when they advertise for jobs, I discovered that IT or Cyber security managers earn between £800 to £1200 monthly. You may be asked to mention one or two companies. So prepare your mind on that.

What have you been doing since your last course of study?

Please, discuss with our team of consultants on the kind of response required to give in this instance. Remember: When giving response in this case, you needd to mention durantion and possibily dates

Why have you chosen to resume your studies? (if there has been a gap in studies)

This question is mainly for those who have gap in studies. Assuming your last qualification is up to 7 years and above. You would to be precise on why you have chosen to study now. This can be that I started working after my degree, and I discovered that to obtain promiotion in my organisation, I required to present a Master degree. This can also be obtained in Nigeria, but I believe that getting one from a UK university would give me better opportunity than other of my collegues.

Why have you chosen to study in the UK?

  1. I carried out a research about other countries where a student would love to go for studies; like the USA, Canada, Australia and New Zealand and I discovered that undertaking a Masters in these countries are does not give a student better exposure especially in being practical with your field unlike in the UK where many schools ensure lecturers are people with practical experience
  2. The UK degree are highly respected all over the world and especially in Nigeria where I come from
  3. The UK education board usually supervises the teaching delivery of all Universities and they ensure this is done to standard.
  4. The cost of studying in the UK is quite cheaper when compared to other countries like the UK, Canada and Australia.

Where would you stay when you arive the UK?

I have made arrangement to stay at Liberty Park Leicester 101 Raw Dykes Rd, Leicester LE2 7FP I made my researvation. For other school please, ensure to discuss your accommodation researvation with us

Why did you choose to study this course?

The health care sector is an important aspect of every society and nation. The current pandemic has shown every nation of the world that improving the health care system and making it more effective and viable is important. An effective health care system cannot be said to be effective if a nation or society does not have the right manpower to participate in a professional manner in achieving an efficient health system.

In my country, there has been several health challenges and issues which has affected the health sector in previous times and due to poor management of these facilities and process, there has been loss of lives and deteriorated health of individuals.

My passion to be part of the health system grew more with the challenge of Ebola and again the Covid-19. Furthermore, I believe obtaining huge experience from a developed country like the UK and being a part of the NHS would give me the opportunity to contribute my talent and learned knowledge of this field towards improving the health care service offered to humanity.

  • This 2 year full time programme is especially designed for people who already hold a first degree wishing to become registered nurses. At the end of the programme you will be ready to take a key role in delivering and leading high quality care for service users.
  • I will also help service users make well-informed decisions relating to their health care needs and preferences by focussing on communication, professional, team working and leadership skills.
  • 50% of learning will occur at the university studying the theory of nursing and 50% of learning will occur in practice placements so that you can integrate what you have learned and are “fit for purpose” in today’s health care settings.
  • Upon successful completion, students will be eligible to enter the Nursing and Midwifery Council Professional Register as an Adult Nurse and will be legally entitled to practice.
